Kango BETA, app for busy parents : carpools, childcare and playdates

KangaDo joins 500 Startups Accelerator in Silicon Valley

Back in 2012, my co-founder Siva and I decided to create KangaDo, driven by our mission to help busy parents connect with each other and get more done – quickly and with peace of mind. Our first priority was to design and develop an easy-to-use app that would solve our users’ top pain points – childcare and transportation (e.g. carpools).

But as more and more parents began using KangaDo, we quickly realized that there was so much more we could do to help them, by harnessing the power of technology. If only we could move faster! If only we could accelerate even more.

Today, we are proud to share that KangaDo has joined the 500 Startups Accelerator, a top tier program for tech startups based in the heart of Silicon Valley, California!

Frankly, there’s no other place KangaDo would rather be.

Long a champion of diversity, 500 Startups has stayed true to their values and admitted a “batch” of startups with 40% female founders (including KangaDo) – a rarity among tech startup accelerators, and likely an unmatched ratio.  There are in-house experts in family tech such as Managing Partner Christine Tsai, and a truly impressive, world class, global network of past and present founders, mentors and investors. All are ready and willing to help accelerator companies such as us! No wonder we feel #500strong.

As with kids, it takes a village to grow a startup!

There’s no question it’s hard work, and founders’ kids see (or don’t see) their parents busier than ever. Support from our families and communities is critical. However, though there are definitely tough days, the kids are excited to be part of our entrepreneurship journey. They support our cause, and contribute to KangaDo whenever and however they can!

In that spirit, here is a short, spontaneous video clip of my 8 year old “Kanga Kid” son pitching KangaDo in his own words on the playground. He can’t wait to visit KangaDo at 500 Startups HQ in Mountain View! He’s heard there’s free soda in the fridge, shelves full of treats, and Star Trek characters on the wall 🙂

Thanks to the KangaDo community for accompanying us into this exciting new chapter! We will keep you posted.

Best wishes,

Sara Schaer
